Abdikarim Mohamed Jilmonge is accused of beating up Joel Kîng'ori on March 11, 2024, along Jam Street.

A businessman in Eastleigh, Nairobi, was charged in court on Wednesday with assaulting a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) official.

Abdikarim Mohamed Jilmonge faced the assault charge, in line with Section 251 of the Penal Code, after he was accused of beating up Joel Kîng'ori on March 11, 2024, along Jam Street.

The businessman allegedly prevented Kîng'ori and his two colleagues, Joyceline Mungoiri and Lucky Musikote, from undertaking their duties by failing to produce his business registration details. It is said that a disagreement ensued when they requested the information.

The businessman is also facing a charge of obstructing an authorised officer in the performance of duties under a tax law, per Section 100 of the Penal Code as read with the Tax Procedure Act of 2015.

Jilmonge denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Agnes Mwangi of the Makadara Law Courts and was released on a bond of Sh50,000.

The hearing starts on October 3, 2024.
